Atmospheric plume simulations

Atmospheric plume simulations conducted in-house include the accurate depiction of vertical turbulence. Simulations can be conducted with US EPA-recommended models such as the Aermod or with the dynamic 3D finite volume model 3D SMART.

Our custom turbulence preprocessor for the Aermod ascertains the accurate depiction of sensible heat flux-driven turbulence in arid climates. That is, sensible heat flux parameters in the Aermod have been calibrated to temperate climates and do not match arid conditions absent custom turbulence modeling.

To preclude numerical diffusion and resulting directional mesh dependency, the 3D SMART can simulate pollutant plumes with a particle-type model.
